Why Herron's On-Site Crematory Matters: Our 3-Step Care Process

When you choose an on-site crematory funeral home, you are choosing something most funeral homes cannot offer: the certainty that your loved one never leaves our building. At Herron Funeral Homes, established in Bethlehem, PA in 1958, every cremation is performed by our licensed staff inside our own facility at 458 Center Street. No third-party transport. No unknown hands. No unanswered questions. Visit our profile on Google Maps to see who we are and where we are.

What Is an On-Site Crematory, and Why Does It Matter?

An on-site crematory is a licensed cremation facility located within the funeral home itself. Most funeral homes outsource cremation to a separate, off-site provider. When that happens, your loved one is transferred out of the funeral home's care, handed to a third-party cremation service, and returned later. Choosing an on-site crematory funeral home means that transfer never happens. Your loved one stays with the same family-owned team from the moment of first call to the moment their remains are returned to you.

Step 1: The Cremation Identification Process Begins With You

Your peace of mind starts before cremation ever begins. As part of our cremation identification process, we invite the legal next of kin or authorized representative to visually identify your loved one. This can be done in person at our Bethlehem facility or through a secure, respectful photo identification process. This step is not a formality; it is your opportunity to feel certain your loved one is in the right hands.

Step 2: Authorization and Documentation

Clarity during a difficult time matters. After identification is confirmed, Funeral Director Paula C. Herron or a licensed team member reviews and completes all required paperwork with you, including the Cremation Authorization Form and personal details confirmation. We walk you through every document at your pace, answer every question, and keep a complete record on file. This step is central to the crematory chain of custody, the documented, unbroken record of who is responsible for your loved one at every moment.

Step 3: Secure Tracking Through Completion

Your loved one is never identified by name alone. Before cremation begins, we place a stainless steel ID disc bearing a unique identifying number with your loved one. That disc stays with them through the entire cremation process and is returned with their remains. This system is the foundation of our crematory chain of custody, a verifiable, step-by-step record that every family deserves.
