Dr. Mary Becker

Dr. Mary Becker passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Bethlehem.  Born in Bethlehem she was the daughter of the late Michael and Eleanor Demetrales.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral and had been active in GOYA and the Daughters of Penelope.

Dr. Mary Becker graduated from Moravian College and earned her PhD in Education from Lehigh University.   She also did post graduate work at Harvard University. 

Dr. Mary Becker was employed as a Reading Supervisor and Director in the Bethlehem Area School District until her recent retirement.  She authored manuals on Effective Literacy Instruction for the PA Department of Education and was an active member of Educational Organizations,  N.E.A and P.S.E.A.

Dr. Becker is survived by her husband, Bernard Becker, daughter, Elissa Becker and sister, Dorothy Moore; nieces Victoria Appel, Esq.(Dr. Jesse Appel), Amanda Mandel, Esq. (Noam Mandel, Esq.); great nieces and nephews Quintin Appel, Vivian Appel, Nathaniel Mandel, Lyla Mandel and Samuel Mandel. 

Funeral Service on Friday April 24, 2026 at 11AM with a viewing from 10AM to 11AM all at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral 1607 West Union Blvd. Bethlehem, PA  18018.  Burial in Cedar Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Allentown.  Funeral arrangements by the Herron Funeral Home in Bethlehem. www.HerronFuneralHomeCares.com
