KRISTA S. VOLK
1959 – 2025

Krista S. Volk of Allentown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on
November 2 at Saint Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by her family. She
was 66 years old. Krista was born on October 9, 1959, in Danville, PA.,
the first child of the late Rev. David and Carolyn Volk. Krista lived in
Sunbury and Windber, Pennsylvania, before moving to Freehold and
settling with her family in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Along the way,
she was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church (Sunbury), First
Lutheran (Windber), and Grace Lutheran (Freehold).
In her youth, Krista was a resident at the Home of the Merciful Savior
in Philadelphia in the mid-1960s before moving to Perth Amboy in
1970. She enjoyed the close-knit neighborhood and many social events as part of the Grace
community. Krista excelled at the Lakeview School in Edison during the late 1970s and loved
the inclusive and welcoming community there. She received her diploma from Perth Amboy
High School in 1980 and participated in the work program at the Center for Disabilities,
sponsored by the Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County.
In 1984, Krista moved to the Good Shepherd Home-Raker Center in Allentown, PA, where she
thrived as an adult and lived until her passing. Over the following four decades, she became a
beloved member of the community. She lived her life to the fullest, participating in a wide range
of activities, including seasonal events, art and music classes, field trips, formal dances, and
socializing with friends. The Raker community included so many residents and caregivers who
were near to her heart and helped make her life fulfilling. She received numerous honors over
the years, including Queen of the Ball three times. Krista was a member of Grace and Saint
Timothy’s Lutheran churches in Allentown.
Everyone who met Krista experienced her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, great sense of humor,
and determination. She was a woman who knew what she wanted! Her big blue eyes and smile
would light up the room. Krista loved home-cooked meals, good music, playing games, spending
time with family and friends, snuggling with pets, and reliving the “good ole’ days”.
In her childhood, Krista enjoyed summer vacations with relatives in Davidsville and Boswell,
PA, and was an enthusiastic camper at Camp Merry Heart in Hackettstown, NJ, for many years.
Favorite vacations in adulthood included visiting Disney World in Florida, seeing the Rockettes
at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, and family reunions at Hersheypark. Krista was
always happy to be on the go, whether it was seeing a Disney on Ice show, trips to the park, the
mall, church, or family celebrations. She loved all kinds of music and attended many shows over
the years, including a Vince Gill concert, bands at SteelStacks, choir performances, and the
Lehigh Valley Chorale. She was also a big theater fan, seeing many shows at DeSales University,
Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, and other regional theaters.
Krista is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. David G. and Carolyn (Baer) Volk, and brother,
David J. Volk. She is survived by her brother Paul and wife Carol (Zeller) Volk of Colts Neck,NJ; sister Sarah and husband Keith Kozak of Monroe Township, NJ; sister-in-law Susan
(Murawski) Volk of Perth Amboy, NJ; nieces and nephews Brittany Volk, Courtney and Bill
Skinner, Matthew, Hayden, and Jack Volk, and Graham and Kyle Kozak - all of NJ - and cousins
in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee and Minnesota, in addition to other relatives and many
close friends in her Good Shepherd and church communities. She was a blessing to us all.
